Chaplains for ‘global warming alarmism’

The Guardian reports that Government MPs are urging Scott Morrison to fund chaplains in every school, saying global warming alarmism is causing “mental health problems” in young.

In the Coalition party room on Tuesday, Liberal MP Andrew Wallace compared children’s fear of climate change with the threat of nuclear annihilation in the 1970s and 80s, saying they are afraid they will die in 10 years as a result of climate change.

Assistant youth minister Luke Howard accused “Greens and Independents who hold Liberal seats” of talking down Australia’s achievements reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Australia experienced a reduction in emissions when it introduced a carbon price in 2012, but has increased emissions since it was repealed in 2014, despite billions of dollars of spending through the Coalition’s “emissions reduction fund”.

Although Morrison has shifted his language about the desirability achieving net zero emissions by 2050 or preferably sooner, the net zero target is not official Coalition policy and Australia is increasingly isolated on the international stage for its unambitious target.
