Novak Djokovic in Park Hotel

The world watches as Novak Djokovic’s visa to enter Australia was cancelled after authorities said he did not meet Covid-19 vaccination requirements. Border Force officials have moved him from the airport to the Park Hotel, a quarantine facility in Melbourne, after being held at the city’s airport overnight.

Refugees have also been held in this hotel by the Australian government, since December 2020, as part of the government’s immigration policies. Many of these refugees had previously been detained for years on Manus Island and Nauru. There are still two dozen people currently held there.

In October, there was a Covid outbreak in which more than 20 people tested positive. The refugees are stuck in their rooms, at the mercy of when the virus may make its way to them.

Time for these men to be released into the community…
