Book launch: Realisations and Reflections

A new book, Realisations and Reflections: Stories of Transformation, was launched at Pilgrim Uniting Church, 12 Flinders St, Adelaide, on Reconciliation Sunday, May 30 @ 9.30am.
The project began after the Pilgrim Uniting Church ‘Day of Mourning’ service in January a week before Australia Day. The Uniting Church in Australia initiated the Day of Mourning in association with the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress (UAICC) as an expression of solidarity with Australia’s First Peoples, particularly in the context of current debates about the celebration of Australia Day on 26 January each year. During the ‘Day of Mourning’ service at Pilgrim Church, people gathered in small groups to share their experiences about moments in their lives when they became more aware of the lives of Aboriginal people.
The diversity and spiritual depth of stories shared was profound. As a result, people were invited to share their stories in written form with the hope of capturing those moments of deep self-disclosure and to self-publish them as a book of stories. The stories have been edited into a book by Geoff Boyce with invaluable support from Paul Foord. Profits from the sales of the book will be directed to Covenanting projects with Aboriginal people.
(Books are available online through Lulu, or direct from the Pilgrim office, office@pilgrim.org.au, Ph 82123295, 12 Flinders St, Adelaide)
